Mr. James “Jimmy” Archie Sykes, age 81, husband of Nancy Proctor Sykes of 828 Riley Road, Buffalo, South Carolina passed away Tuesday, December 28, 2021.
Jimmy was born December 28, 1940 in Union, South Carolina, son of the late Woodrow Wilson Sykes and Sara Stone Sykes. Jimmy was a 1959 graduate of Union High School, graduate of Cecil’s Business College, attended Coastal Carolina University, and served in the US Army Reserve. He had a long career in textile management, and his favorite pastime was cattle farming. He was a member of Buffalo United Methodist Church. Jimmy worked hard his entire life to make his family proud. He loved his family dearly and was most proud of his grandchildren.
Surviving in addition to his wife of 59 years are a daughter, two sons, and six grandchildren. They are his daughter Amy Sykes Whitfield, her husband Robert and his son Nicholas all of North Augusta; James “Jamie” Sykes, his wife Angie and their children Wilson and Linsey all of Abbeville; David Sykes, his wife Leslie and their children Wells, Sara, and Lizzie all of Lexington.
Graveside services will be held at 1:00 PM, Friday, December 31, 2021, at Union Memorial Gardens. Family visitation will be held immediately following the graveside service.
Honorary pallbearers will be Benjamin Wages, Roger Bishop, Steve Freeman, Jimmy Cheek, Jimmy Stone, and Gerald Inabinet.
Memorials can be made to Meals on Wheels of Union or Buffalo United Methodist Church.
