Jerry Howard Burgess

Mr. Jerry Howard Burgess, age 69, husband of Joyce McCluney Burgess, of 3022 Mt. Lebanon Rd., Buffalo, went to be with the Lord, Saturday, December 4, 2021 at Spartanburg Regional Medical Center.

Mr. Burgess was born December 22, 1951 in Union, a son of the late Manuel “PeeWee” Burgess and Marguerite Lawson Burgess.  He was the Owner and Operator of Burgess Land Clearing and Grading.  Mr. Burgess was a former member of the South Carolina National Guard.  He was a member of Putman Baptist Church where he was a member of the Church Property Maintenance Committee.  Mr. Burgess helped many friends by organizing fundraisers for those in need. 

Surviving in addition to his wife of 24 years are three daughters, Julie Lydia of Union, Amy Guyton of Spartanburg, and Beth Revis and husband Gene of Buffalo; two sons, Michael Lawson of West Springs and Dylan Lawson and wife Madacyn of Buffalo; a sister, Annett Ketz of Buffalo; a brother Terry “Bill” Burgess and wife Margie of Buffalo; four grandchildren, Haylee West McAbee, USMC Lance Corporal Daniel Revis, Tabitha Lydia, and Renee Guyton; seven great-grandchildren, Harper Lawson, Waylon Lawson, Milan, Michael, Tanner, Zayden, and Paisley Sorrell; and numerous nieces and nephews.  He was predeceased by a son-in-law, Josh Lydia.  

Funeral services will be held at 2:00 PM Tuesday, December 7, 2021 at Putman Baptist Church conducted by Rev. Tommy Mann, Rev. Dale McCluney, and Rev. Dr. Ted Hodges.  Burial will follow in the Church Cemetery.

Active pallbearers will be Gene Revis, Maxx Revis, Dylan Lawson, Billy Burgess, Terry Burgess, III, and Nate McAbee.  The following are asked to sit in a group and form the honorary escort, Mike Ivey, Jason Ivey, Steve Freeman, Randy Guyton, Dennis Carter, Albert Barnado, Richard and Mary Moore, Trey and Amanda Newton, William Mosley, Timm and Teresa Rogers, and Jonathan Burnett.

Visitation will be held from 1:00 PM until 2:00 PM prior to the services at the Church.

Sunday, December 5, 2021 the family will be at the home of his daughter, Beth and Gene Revis, 324 Sugar Creek Rd., Buffalo, after lunch on Monday the family will be at his home 3022 Mt. Lebanon Rd., Buffalo, where Mr. Burgess will lie in state.
