Jesse Fleming Obituary

In loving memory of Jesse Reece Fleming, who departed this world to his heavenly home on Monday, February 19, 2024. He was born on May 17, 1990, to James Fleming and Jana Lawson Fleming. He spent his childhood with his beloved “Ninny”, Jeanene Crocker, until she passed away. He was then welcomed as a son into the home of Brad and Stephanie Goodale. He is missed by his brothers- Chris (Suzanne) Smith, Jacob Fleming, John Andrew (Jenny) Goodale, Seth (Ashton) Goodale- and his sisters- Kacie Lawson and Rebekah Goodale. His grandparents are Jerry O’Shields, Gerald and Joyce Inabinet, Charlie Goodale, and Ronnie Lawson. He is survived by many aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews and cousins. He was predeceased by his mother, Jana Lawson Fleming; paternal grandmother, Jeanene Crocker; paternal grandfather, Larry O’Shields; and maternal grandmother, Brenda Lawson.

Jesse loved working on the AV team at Brookstone Church in Asheville, Clemson football, Pokémon, his job at USPS, WWE wrestling, and was a huge Stryper and Louis Tomlinson fan. He had a passion for many things, but two in particular were Marvel/DC/Lord of the Rings movies, and sharing his love for food through his social media page- Reece’s Eats.

Jesse was quick to discuss his favorite Marvel/DC/The Lord of the Rings heroes/characters and anticipated each new film’s release. You could see him get excited when talking about the Avengers movies, especially Avengers: Endgame. He loved talking about fan theories and would rewatch each series, in order, over and over.

As a child, Jesse was one of the pickiest eaters you can imagine. When he became an adult, he loved trying new foods and sharing where he found them with his family and friends. His food pics and posts on Reece’s Eats are legendary in their own right, as was his voracious appetite. He could out eat people twice his size. He loved promoting local restaurants and would include pics of the menu and what he ordered, when the restaurant was founded, and a little of its history. A few of his favorite spots were Taste of Belgium (Cincinnati, OH), The Dolly Llama (Asheville, NC), Hearts (Union, SC), and Sugar and Spice (Spartanburg, SC).

Jesse was an optimistic, kind, and generous person who always had a smile and touched the lives of many. He will be deeply missed by those who knew him.

A celebration of life will be held on Sunday, February 25, 2024, at 3pm at Philippi Baptist Church. The service will be conducted by Rev. Robert Scott and Rev. Brad Goodale. Visitation will precede the service from 1-3pm also at Philippi. He will be laid to rest at Mount Joy Baptist Church immediately following the service. Active pallbearers will be John Andrew Goodale, Seth Goodale, Tony Waters, Leland Comtois, Chris Smith, and Jacob Fleming.

As we say farewell for now to our favorite hero, we are comforted knowing his adventures have only begun with his heavenly Father, and he has a seat at the grandest buffet table there is. In the words of Stan Lee, and until we see you again- Excelsior!

In lieu of flowers, donations can be sent to Brookstone Church, 90 Griffee Rd.,
