Mrs. Joanna Porter Gibson, age 86, of 419 Mt. Tabor Church Rd., Union, widow of Billy D. Gibson, passed away Sunday, May 21, 2023 at her home.
Mrs. Gibson was born in Chester, June 4, 1936, a daughter of the late Horace and Edna Robbins Porter. She was retired from Cone Mill, Carlisle Finishing and had received an Associates Degree in Theology. Mrs. Gibson was a former member of Lockhart Free Will Baptist where she taught Sunday School for many years. She loved her Lord and loved taking care of her family.
Surviving are three daughters, Terry G. Horne, Tammy G. Pierce and husband Ronnie and Amy G. Linder and husband Doug all of Union; a sister, Carolyn Belue of Union; and two brothers, Eddie Porter of Union and Sonny Porter of Chester. She is also survived by two grandchildren, Tyler Ellis and wife Amy and Kacie Horne, four great-grandchildren and many nieces and nephews. Mrs. Gibson was predeceased by a granddaughter, Jennifer Roark, eight sisters and two brothers.
The family wishes to say a special Thank You to Spartanburg Regional Hospice nurses, Toni, Cheri, Mechelle, Christina and Susan along with special friends, Terry Johnston, Robin Crocker, Jerry Smith and Logan Vanderford for all the care and compassion shown to Mrs. Gibson and her family.
Funeral services will be held at 12:00 noon Wednesday, May 24, 2023, at the S.R. Holcombe Funeral Chapel conducted by Rev. Jeff Gilfillan and Rev. Gonzale Childers. Burial will follow at Lockhart Cemetery.
Active pallbearers will be Tyler Ellis, Randy Childers, Jerry Smith, Jeff Gilfillan, Gonzale Childers and Wayne Porter.
The family will receive friends from 11:00 until 12:00 noon Wednesday at the chapel prior to the services.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital, 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis, TN 38105-9959.
The family will be at the home, 419 Mt. Tabor Church Rd., Union.
