Joel Todd Wood

           Mr. Joel Todd Wood, age 55, husband of Cathy Jean Gentry Wood of 131 Mitchell Rd., Union, passed away unexpectedly Sunday, September 4, 2023 at his home. He was a loving and devoted husband, father, and grandfather.

            Mr. Wood was born in Union, September 11, 1967, a son of Bobby Joe Wood of Union and the late Brenda Becknell Wood. He was a 1987 graduate of Union High School and was employed with at Lake View Gardens Apartments.

            Joel was an avid fisherman, and you would find him most weekends at Big D’s with owner/friend Eddie Cheatham along with his “ride or die” friends David Heatherly and Timmy “Gully Bug” Caldwell of Buffalo. He also enjoyed cooking chicken stew and deer hash with Steve “Beaver” Morris. He had a passion for construction that was instilled by Dennis Langley.

            Surviving in addition to his wife and father are a daughter, Ashton Ward of Union; twin sons, Gentry Wood and Levi Wood of Union; a sister, Angie Campbell and husband Dennis “brother-in-law” of Duncan; and a brother, Lynn Wood and wife Kelly of Union. He is also survived by a grandson, Tycen Ward; a granddaughter, Ava “Squirrel” Wood and his two dogs, Annabelle and Puff.

            A service to celebrate his life will be held at 4:00 PM Friday, September 8, 2023 at the S.R. Holcombe Funeral Chapel conducted by Rev. Mark Truitt. Visitation will be held from 2:00 until 4:00 Friday at the chapel prior to the services.

           The family would like the following to sit in a group, David Heatherly, Gully Bug, Dennis and Cindy Langley, Eddie and Susan Cheatham, Dean Howell, Steve and Cheryl Morris, Weston Wood, Vanessa and Keshaun Porter, AmyAmy and Reggie Hughes, Sally Inman, Renee Russell and Leslie Owens.

            In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Fairview Baptist Church, 763 Neal Shoals Rd., Union, SC 29379.

            The family will be at the home of his father, Bobby Joe Wood, 277 Webber Lake Rd., Union.
