John Strong Kerr went home to be with the Lord on Sunday, November 8, 2020.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Patricia Knox Kerr, his parents Edgar “Pa Kerr and Louise Strong Kerr, brothers Jim and Ernest “Shot” Kerr and a sister, Bernice Blackwell.
He proudly served his country in WWII at the age of fifteen, living up to his name Strong. He loved sharing his war stories and was honored to have served his country.
In his younger years, he was an avid fisherman and hunter, however farming was his passion. Each year he took pride in his garden, instilling the love of gardening in his great grandchildren. He enjoyed every aspect of his farm, but the love of his farm animals brought him great joy especially his goats.
His greatest accomplishment was his family. He leaves behind two sons, Donn and wife Nancy and Larry and wife Norma; a sister, Gladys Garrett of Boiling Springs; three granddaughters, Nicole and husband Jimmy Tesner, Anne Marie and husband Joey Holder and Stephanie and husband Adam Parrish. He truly loved his six great grandchildren, always referring to them as his buddies; Hayden and Ryley Tesner, Samantha and Donovan Holder and Madelyn and Raleigh Parrish. We will always be his pumpkin heads and the great grands will always remember that he loves them “ten million pieces”.
He was also blessed to have Tori Lawson, a young lady that seemed to love our Papa as much as we did. She came into our lives when we needed her most.
Graveside services will be held Friday, November 13th at 3:00 pm at Gilead Baptist Church Cemetery. The family requests that those who attend the service follow COVID-19 and social distancing guidelines.
Friends may pay their respects to Mr. Kerr Friday, from 11:00 AM to 1:00 PM at the Holcombe’s Jonesville Chapel, 145 Hames Ave., Jonesville.
