Jonathan Long Obituary

Mr. Jonathan Matthew “Matt the Hat” Long, age 43, of 302 River Hills Rd., Union, passed away Saturday, February 17, 2024, at Pelham Medical Center.

Mr. Long was born September 27, 1980, in Union, a son of MacBeth Young “Mac” Long and Nancy Kingsmore Long.  He was a graduate of Union High Schol and was the Sight Director for USSA Baseball Association.  Mr. Long was a member of Buffalo Baptist Church.

Surviving in addition to his parents are a brother, Michael Long of Union; and special nieces and nephews, Betsy Cobb and husband Michael, Logan Long, and Olivia Long.

A celebration of life service will be held at 3:00 PM Thursday, February 22, 2024, at Buffalo Baptist Church conducted by the Rev. Doug Estes.  Burial will follow at Union Memorial Gardens.

Active pallbearers will be Steve “Doc” Long, Jason Lipsey, Brad Weaver, Paul Phillips, Brad Phillips, and Jamie “Fish” Brown.  Members of All League Baseball along with close friends, Scott Henderson, Dan Sherbert, Greg Eaves, Adam Maness, Monty Means, Graham Cromer, Derik Vanderford, DJ Rice, and Clay Palmer are asked to sit in a group and serve as the honorary escort.

Visitation will be held from 2:00 PM until 3:00 PM prior to the services at the church. 

Memorials may be made to Buffalo Baptist Church Youth and Children Fund, P.O. Box 428, Buffalo, SC 29321.

The family is at the home of his parents, Nancy and Mac Long, 1418 Main St., Buffalo, SC 29321.
