Obituary

Mrs. Marilyn Bright, known to many as “Mimi”, age 80 widow of Bobby Ray Bright, of 420 Pineneedle Road, Union, SC walked through the Pearly Gates of Heaven to the arms of Jesus on May 11, 2023, surrounded by her family.  Mrs. Bright was born in Union, April 2, 1943 to the late Elbert Odell Whiting and Ethel Pearl Whiting.  She was an administrator with Weight Watcher of the Piedmont for 15 years. Mrs. Bright was also the Co-Founder and Co-Owner of Hometown Courier, from where she retired. 

She was active member of Tabernacle Baptist Church where she was a Sunday School teacher for more than 36 years.  Mrs. Bright loved teaching others about Jesus and loved all the ladies in her Sunday School class dearly.  She served as member of the Union County Baptist Association Executive Committee, member of the Agape Women’s Group, WMU Mission Involvement Coordinator, Adult II Sunday School Department Director, and in many other areas as led by the Lord.

Mrs. Bright also had a love for art and she enjoyed painting in her spare time.  She loved teaching her great-grand children how to draw and paint. 

Surviving are her three children that were Mrs. Bright’s lifeline.  She was so very proud of each of them and loved them dearly.  Surviving are two daughters, Crystal Bright Lewis and Kim Bright Vaughn, both from Union, a son Danny Bright and wife Amy of Jonesville, SC,   three sisters, Sara Wade and husband Roger and Penny Smith, both of Union; and Donna Fletcher and husband David of Beech Island, SC,  three grand-children that brought her so much pleasure, love and joy Kacie Bright Ingle and husband Shawn Ingle, Crystal Vaughn Medlock and husband Allen Medlock and Daniel Bright and Taylor Acton of ­­Lyman, SC, and  six great-grandchildren, Addy Ruth Ingle, Jaxon Ingle, Chloe Medlock, Callen Medlock, Skylynn Vaughn, and Kyler Bright.  She is also survived by many loving nieces and nephews that she so proud of and greatly loved. 

She was predeceased by a sister, Anne Collins; two brothers-in-law, James Marvin Collins and Herbie Smith, two sons-in-law, Jackie Vaughn and David Lewis and two grandchildren, Leslie Vaughn and Lance Vaughn. 

The family would like to extend their countless appreciation and thanks to Spartanburg Regional Palliative Home Health Team and the Spartanburg Regional Hospice Team.

Visitation will be Sunday, May 14, 2023 at Tabernacle Baptist Church 2:30 PM – 4:00 PM.  Funeral Services will be held on Sunday, May 14, 2023 at 4:00 PM at Tabernacle Baptist Church conducted by the Rev. Brad Goodale and Rev. Shawn Ingle.  Burial will follow at Union Memorial Gardens.   

Active Pallbearers will be Kevin Smith, Garrison Smith, Cyle Coker, Brandon Allison, Dillon Barber, Cole Rector, Wilbur Smith and Paul Greer II. 

The following are asked to serve as the honorary escort, Grayson Smith, Westley Robinson, Jacob Robinson, Cade Coker, Mason Russell, and Parker Russell.

Members of Marilyn Bright’s Sunday School class and the “Ladies Lunch Bunch” are asked to sit in a group.

Memorials may be made to Tabernacle Baptist Church Elevator Fund at 915 Pinckney Street, Union, S.C.  29379

The family will be at the home of her daughter, Crystal Lewis, 212 Catawba Street, Union, SC.   Cards, condolences, and other mailings can be mailed to P.O. Box 1244, Union, SC.
