Mark Edward Smith

Mr. Mark Edward Smith, age 61, of 1666 Mudbridge Road, Jonesville, passed away Tuesday, November 15, 2022, at his home.

Mr. Smith was born June 14, 1961, in Union, a son of the late Paul Elbert Smith and Norma Hawkins Smith.  He was a graduate of Jonesville High School and the SC Criminal Justice Academy. Mark was a former Deputy with the Union County Sheriff’s Department and a former SC State Trooper. He had also been a truck driver and equipment operator. Mr. Smith was a member of West Springs Baptist Church. 

Surviving are a brother Stanley Smith and his wife Dianne, a nephew Brandon and his wife Cassie, all of Jonesville. Mark was also survived by a great niece Layla Smith, an aunt Ethel Taylor as well as number of cousins

Funeral services will be held at 2:00 PM Thursday, November 17, 2022, at West Springs Baptist Church conducted by the Rev. Greg Black.  Burial will follow at the West Springs Baptist Church Cemetery.

Active pallbearers will be Jamie Gallman, Mike Gault, Chris Madden, Wayne Palmer, Norris Fowler, and Tommy Benfield.  The following are asked to sit in a group and form the honorary escort, Jason Fowler, Richard Adams, John Mason, Sonny Mason, Greg Fowler, Russell Inabinet, Ray Vinson, Eddie Lawson, Jeff Lawson, Doran Eaves, and Frank Lancaster.

Visitation will be held from 1:00 PM until 2:00 PM prior to the service and immediately following the services.

The family would like to give a special thanks to Bruce Cook with Compassus Hospice, and friends that assisted with his care during his time of need.
