Miles Curtis Ridgeway, Jr., a beloved husband, father, brother, grandfather, and friend passed away Friday, February 12, 2021 at eighty years of age Curt was born on January 18th, 1941 in Union, SC to Miles Curtis Ridgeway, Sr. of Princeton, SC and Elizabeth Hyatt Ridgeway of Bogansville, SC. Curt was preceded in death by his parents and infant brother, Thomas Jerry Ridgeway.
Curt is survived by his wife of sixty-two years Peggy Smith Ridgeway and their children Cindy Murphy (Dan) of Myrtle Beach, Roger Ridgeway of Irmo, and Phyllis Blount (Harry) of West Columbia. He is also survived by his grandchildren Candice Murphy (Eric) of Walland, TN, Jonathan Murphy (Cheri) of Columbia, SC, Grayson Richardson of Columbia, SC, Mackenzie Ridgeway (Kacie) of Guyton, GA, Erin Lane (Shawn) of Walland, TN, Hyatt Richardson of Myrtle Beach, SC and Olivia Ridgeway of Columbia, SC. In addition he had seven great grandchildren and 2 sisters, Sarah Munn of Myrtle Beach, SC and Sammie Hicks of Columbia, SC.
Growing up in Union, SC Curt enjoyed playing baseball, attending Boy Scouts, and playing the cornet in the Union High School Band where he served as Band Captain. He was a member of the graduating class of 1959. Curt was also known for his ability to dance that started as a young man and continued through his life. After attending Gardner Webb College and the University of South Carolina, Curt began a lifelong career at the South Carolina Bookstore. He remained an avid Gamecock far throughout his life.
Curt was a member of First Baptist Church in Columbia, SC where he served as a deacon, choir member, and Awana leader. He was also a 33rd Degree Mason in the Scottish Rite and was a Shriner at the Jamil Temple in Columbia. He also enjoyed being a member in the Civitan International.
A memorial service will be held at a later announced date at First Baptist Church in Columbia.
