Penny Heck Arthur

Mrs. Penny Heck Arthur, age 77, widow of James M. Arthur, Jr., passed peacefully from this world on Sunday, October 10, 2021.

Born on February 29, 1944, in Washington DC, she was the daughter of the late William Edward Heck and Tellie Sanders Hecht.  She was a graduate of Union High School and attended Winthrop College.  She was a Girl Scout and Cub Scout leader for many years.  She served on the Union County School Board and enjoyed being a member of the Union Garden Club.  She attended Bethel United Methodist Church where she participated in the United Methodist Women.   Mrs. Arthur was an avid gardener and loved sharing her flowers with everyone she knew.  Every year she looked forward to competing in the Union County Fair Flower Show and had an impressive collection of ribbons. Her favorite hobbies were stamp collecting and photography.  She loved meeting people and always had a beautiful smile on her face.    

Mrs. Arthur is survived by a daughter, Becky A. Gressette and husband Sidney of Farmerville, LA; a son, Andy Arthur and wife Leigh Ann of Florence; three grandsons, Drew, Will, and Luke Arthur; one sister, Marsha Sayers of Spartanburg; two sisters-in-law, Amy Kosanovic and husband Ric of Murfreesboro, TN, Debbie Baskin and husband Barry of Charleston; three brothers-in-law, Gibby Arthur and wife Jane of Union, Robert Arthur and wife Heather of Franklin, TN and Charlie Howell of Charleston.

Visitation will be held from 5:00 pm to 7:00 pm Friday evening at Bethel United Methodist Church.

Graveside services will be held at 1:00 pm, Saturday, October 16, 2021, at Union Memorial Gardens conducted by Rev. Merritt Wentz.

Active pallbearers will be Gibby Arthur, Jerry Coward, Bailey Davis, Chad Jenkins, Jeff McNeace, and Craig Sanders.

Memorials may be made to Bethel United Methodist Church, 1705 Lockhart Highway, Union, SC 29379.

The family is at their respective homes.
