Ronnie Joe Groves

Ronnie Joe “Papa” Groves, 72, husband of Brenda Willard Groves, of Buffalo, SC, passed away Thursday, March 18, 2021.  He served as a SGT in the United States Army and was a very kind and humble man, a family man at his best, who was well respected and loved with all of his heart.

Mr. Groves was born April 7, 1948 in Union, a son of the late Allen George Groves and Emma Ruth Steele Groves Grubbs.  He was retired from Milliken & Co.—Gillespie Plant.  Mr. Groves was of the Baptist Faith.

Surviving in addition to his wife are two daughters, Stacey Malpass and husband Dennis of Union and Tootie Groves and wife Bobbie of North Carolina; a son, Ronnie Groves, Jr. and wife Paige of Buffalo; a brother, Tony Groves and wife Clara of Union; ten grandchildren, Libby Stephens, Whitney Groves, Josh Stephens, Crystal Stephens, Crystal Stephens, Cammie Groves, Neal Stephens, Devin Fisher, Collin Malpass, Breann Malpass, and Alysha Clark; fifteen great-grandchildren; and his loving K-9 Companion “Joe-Joe.”  He was predeceased by a daughter, Margaret Ann Stephens and a brother, Jackie Groves.

Funeral services will be held at 3:00 PM Sunday, March 21, 2021 at New Hope Baptist Church conducted by the Rev. Johnny Burgess.  Burial will follow at Rosemont Cemetery.

Active pallbearers will be Tootie Groves, Doug Harrison, Wendell Brannon, Jeff Groves, Dennis Malpass, T.J. Booker.  Honorary pallbearers will be Collin Malpass, Ashton Groves, and Breann Malpass.

Visitation will be held from 2:00 PM until 3:00 PM prior to the services at the Church.
