Russell Eugene Kingsmore (“Russ” or “Gene”) of Winston Salem, NC, went to his heavenly home on Wednesday, October 18, 2023, surrounded by his adoring family. He was a beloved father, grandfather, husband, a respected businessman and was a faithful follower of Christ who loved the Lord, his family, church and community. He was 91 years of age.
He is survived by his wife, Sharon “Bunny” Kingsmore; his son and daughter-in-law, Richard and Gina Kingsmore; his three grandchildren, Kristin Kingsmore Roberts, Adam Kingsmore and Katelyn Kingsmore; his nieces, Jo Anne Haney and Trina Ellis; and five great-grandchildren. He is preceded in death by his first wife Geraldine Reno Kingsmore; his son, David Kingsmore; his brothers, Earl Kingsmore and Marvin Kingsmore; his mother, Lucy Allen Kingsmore; his father, Clarence Kingsmore.
He was born June 18, 1932, in Union County, SC. He graduated from Union High School and joined the United States Navy where he served in the Korean Conflict aboard the aircraft carrier USS Oriskany from 1951-1953. After honorable discharge, he attended the University of South Carolina where he graduated with a degree in mechanical engineering. Early in his career he worked in aerospace engineering for Boeing, McDonnell Douglas, Martin Marietta and LTV Electrosystems. Later he transitioned to textile engineering and worked for Hanes Knitwear. He eventually became Director of Energy Management for the Sara Lee Corporation for 20 plus years until he started his own consulting company.
His family and friends remember his as a kind, gentle, determined, smart yet soft spoken man with lots of wisdom to offer. He lived with an attitude of gratitude, always thanking everyone for any act of service. He will also be remembered for his remarkable storytelling ability. He valued stories and people and made it a point to know everyone that he encountered by name. He was a jack of all trades and loved to renovate properties in his free time. He was passionate about his relationship with Christ and the Bible and treasured the friendships of the men in the Bible studies he attended on a weekly basis. He was a faithful member of Calvary Baptist Church in Winston Salem, NC where he attended for 51 years.
A service celebrating his life is scheduled for Monday, October 30, 2023 at 2:00 PM at Calvary Baptist Church in Winston Salem, NC. Dr. Gary Chapman and Pastor Truett Williams will officiate the service.
