Mrs. Sara Vaughan Sprouse, affectionately known as “Gurney” age 90, of 213 Catawba St., Union, widow of Bobby Sprouse, passed away, Tuesday, September 7, 2021, at her home.
“Gurney” was born April 23, 1931, in Union, the oldest daughter and second of nine children born to Howard and Grace Cudd Vaughan. She was a 1949 graduate of Union High School and attended yearly reunions until her health declined in the last years. Gurney was retired from United Merchants—Union Mill and spent her retirement years taking care of her friends and family, sharing her cooking talents and being the best grandmother, mother, sister, and friend, she could be any time she was needed. She was an active member of Westside Baptist Church for many years as a Sunday School Teacher and youth worker. She later joined New Life Baptist Church and was active as long as her health permitted. Her love of birds, flowers, reading, and her lessons of how to love like Jesus will live on in her family for years to come.
