Shirley Ann (Sumner) Burnett

Mrs. Shirley Ann Sumner Burnett, age 79, wife of Larry Lane, of 508 Hart St., Union, passed away Saturday, January 9, 2021 at Union Medical Center.

Mrs. Burnett was born in Union, January 26, 1941, a daughter of the late William Brooks Sumner and Mary Etta Ward Sumner. She was retired from the textile industry having worked for Conso and Her Majesty and was also a certified CNA. She was a member of Union Church of God where she was a beloved worker and supporter of her church.

Surviving in addition to her husband are two daughters, Sharon Burnett Mann and husband Wilton of Union and Sherry Burnett Seaman and husband James of Inman; a niece reared in the home, Carolyn H. Morgan; grandchildren, William Thomas Burnett, II, Kyra Mann, Lizzy Seaman, and Brie Seaman; a daughter-in-law, Lavine Whetstine Burnett and a number of special nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by a son, Wendell Thomas Burnett, three sisters, Ruby Sumner Hewitt, Katie Sumner Foster, and Geraldine Sumner Hayes and three brothers, John Sumner, Jim Sumner and Bill Sumner.

Graveside services will be held at 2:00 PM Saturday, January 18, 2021 at Union Memorial Gardens conducted by Rev. Steve McAbee. The family request that COVID precautions are followed.

The following are asked to serve as the honorary escort, Will Burnett, Danny Sumner, Chris Sumner, Mike Hayes and Ken Sumner.
