Mr. Stephen F. “Steve” Mullinax, Sr., age 82, 1044 Oak Creek Dr., Spartanburg, widower of Peggy Petty Mullinax, passed away Friday, August 4, 2023 at Upstate Community Hospice House, Landrum, SC.
Mr. Mullinax was born in Union, December 10, 1940, a son of the late Charles “Frank” Mullinax and Ruth Fowler Mullinax. He was a 1958 graduate of Union High School where he excelled in athletics; a 1957 Shine Bowl player and played basketball for four years. Later Mr. Mullinax graduated from Carson Newman College and a member of the Alpha Phi Omega. He also continued his education at Western Carolina University and the University of South Carolina. Mr. Mullinax was a veteran of the US Army and a member of Boiling Springs First Baptist Church and previously a member of Lockhart Methodist and Landrum Methodist churches. He was employed for twenty-nine years in the school system, where he held different positions; administrator, principal, teaching and coaching basketball and football. Mr. Mullinax was a member of the South Carolina coach’s association and president of the Lion’s Club.
Surviving are two sons, Stephen Mullinax, Jr. and Blair Mullinax of Spartanburg: two sisters, Ann M. Horne and Karen M. Hill of Summerville. He was predeceased by a sister, Emily M. Quinn.
A Celebration of Life service will be held at 2:00 PM Friday, August 11, 2023 at the S.R. Holcombe Funeral Chapel conducted by Marion Freeman and Ronald Kirby.
Visitation will be held Friday from 1:00 until 2:00 PM at the chapel prior to the services.
The family will be at their respective homes.
