Thomas Wayne Baker

            Mr. Thomas Wayne Baker, age 79, husband of Karen Farr Baker, of 412 Rice Ave., Union, passed away, Monday, March 1, 2021 at his home after an extended illness.

            Mr. Baker was born in Lancaster, SC, January 3, 1942, a son of the late Thomas Marion Baker and Blanche Lynch Baker. He was a 1960 graduate of Union High School and attended Gardner-Webb College. Mr. Baker retired from the S.C. Dept. of Corrections having worked in administration. He was retired from the S.C. Army National Guard having served for 31 years.

            Mr. Baker had been active with many organizations in Union county including the Union Elks Lodge, the Union Jaycees and Dixie Youth Baseball. He was an avid supporter of the Union Yellow Jackets and the Clemson Tigers. He loved watching NASCAR and cooking; especially cooking large meals for others and was known for his BBQ and slaw. Mr. Baker was a member of Duncan Acres United Methodist Church and was a devoted husband and loving father.

            Surviving in addition to his wife of 52 years, Karen, are a daughter, Jennifer Karen Baker of the home; a son Jason Wayne Baker and wife Carrie of Pittsburg, PA; a grandson, Liam Donald Baker; three brothers, Rev. Ted Baker and wife Jan and Dr. Mark Baker and wife Lynn all of Blairsville, GA, and Keith Baker and wife Andrena of Union; and several nieces and nephews. Mr. Baker was also survived by his fur babies, Bella, Leo, and Quin.

            The family wishes to express a special thank you to Dr. Murdock and the staff and nurses of Spartanburg Dialysis Clinic and to Agape Hospice, especially Ann and Doris for their care and support during Mr. Baker’s illness.

            A celebration of life service will be held 2:00 PM Friday, March 5, 2021 at Duncan Acres United Methodist Church conducted by Rev. Merritt Wentz and Rev. Ted Baker.

            The family will receive friends from 1:00 until 2:00 Friday at the church prior to the service.
