Mrs. Virginia Farmer Walker, age 89, widow of James Robert Walker, Sr., formerly of Catawba St., Union, passed away Friday, January 1, 2021 at Mary Back Memorial Hospital.
Mrs. Walker was born in Pelzer, September 27, 1931, a daughter of the late Rev. Ansel Farmer and Minnie Lockhart Farmer. She was a 1949 graduate of Union High School and retired from the US Postal Service after 23 years of service. She began her career in 1970 as the first female mail carrier in Union. Mrs. Walker was active with the American Legion Auxiliary and helped each year with the planning of the Veterans Day Parade. She was also a volunteer at Wallace Thomson Hospital and was a member of Grace United Methodist Church.
Surviving are two sons, Eric B. Walker and wife Susan of Buffalo and James Robert Walker, Jr. of Morrisville, NC; three grandchildren, Lindzey Weaver and husband Greg, Eric Walker, Jr. and wife Hannah and Brett Walker; six great-grandchildren and many beloved nieces and nephews. Mrs. Walker was predeceased by her daughter, Ginger Walker Buchanan, two sisters, Beatrice Champion and Cornelia Huggins and three brothers, Ralph, Ansel, and Alvin Farmer.
Private graveside services will be held by the family.
