Warren Blakely Chick, II

Mr. Warren Blakely Chick II, 73, of 721 W. Main St., Union, passed away Sunday, April 18, 2021 at his home following several years of declining health.  Mr. Chick was born in Gastonia, NC on August 15, 1947, the son of the late Warren Blakely Chick and Helen Lucille (Vicki) McCarter Chick.  He attended elementary school at a Catholic School in Gastonia, NC.  He graduated from Union High School in 1966 and then attended the University of SC, Union, later graduating from the University of SC, Columbia with a Bachelor of Arts Degree in English and a Minor in French. He also earned a Masters Degree in English Literature from the University of SC, Columbia. He taught English for 23 years from 1972 to 1995 in the Union County School System, first at Sims Jr. High School and later at Union High School. Mr. Chick was a former member of Green Street United Methodist Church, Duncan Acres United Methodist Church where he had taught Sunday School, and later St. Augustine Catholic Church where he was active as long as his health permitted.

     Mr. Chick was the last surviving member of his immediate family.  He is survived by a cousin, John Newman Howe and wife Frances Hartsoe Howe of York, SC and their children, Jody, John II, and Cindy.  He is also survived by a cousin’s widow, Mary Wingo Chick of Charlotte, NC and her children, Matt and Melissa, and Tommy Bishop – friend, neighbor, DPOA and caregiver for the past 17 years. Mr. Chick is also survived by many friends and former students.  He was predeceased by an uncle and aunt, James Plummer Chick and his wife, Annie Gault Chick, an aunt and uncle, Flossie Chick Miller and her husband, Joel A. Miller with whom he made his home for more than 60 years, and a cousin, James (Jimmy) Plummer Chick, Jr.

     Graveside services will be held in the Chick Family plot at the Newman Swamp United Methodist Church cemetery in Lamar, SC on Wednesday, April 28 at 3:00pm.

     Friends and former students of Mr. Chick are welcome to visit the funeral home to sign the register.
